More NCD Communities receive funding assistance
COMMUNITIES are being engaged and made more aware of the message of Yumi Lukautim Mosbi, thanks to more than a K100, 000 funding the Yumi Lukautim Mosbi Projek (YLMP) has put into supporting 11 projects since the end of last year.
The YLMP is a law and order project funded by the Australian Government through its aid agency, AusAid and supported by co-partners within the Law and Justice Sector.
As an urban safety initiative, it is being piloted in the National Capital District and spearheaded by the NCD Commission. Its management is done by the NCD Urban Safety Advisory Committee, with a supporting secretariat called the Urban Safety Unit coming from the NCDC under its Community and Social Services department.
The heart of the Yumi Lukautim Mosbi message is the Law and Justice Sector vision "A just, safe and secure society for all."
YLMP strives to engage communities meaningfully and its efforts are driven toward crime diversion - that is so that the youths, especially, become engaged in development activities and refrain from resorting to crime.
Since October last year, the 11 projects have received funding from the YLMP totaling K144, 238.
They include the Ben Martial Arts School (K5,878.50), Badili United Youths who received grass cutting tools (K3, 396), Rabia Gini Arts and Music for their promotion of the YLM campaign (K8,851), SK Women's Group for the purchase of agriculture farming and sewing material (K5,649), the Kidu Volleyball tournament (K14,580), the community services network launch (K7,425), Peter Pinoko and Associates for their conduct of moral and ethical awareness (K10,000), Hirimbera Women's Group for community and justice training K9,000), the Moresby North West LLG for community employment (K11,156), Mare Women's Group for skills training on sewing (9,672) and YLM awareness on EMTV (K58,630).
