Stake holders urged to appreciate government processes
LAW and Justice Stakeholders have been urged to appreciate government processes and requirements and work within those means.
Director of the Law and Justice Sector Secretariat Kepas Paon made the appeal when opening the NGO Budget forum, organized by the sector, through its Community Justice Liaison Unit.
"I urge you to understand how formal agencies are working within the laws to implement their jobs. That may not appeal to you, but as we are also responsible for the people's monies," said Mr Paon.
He added that the sector was working earnestly to foster and sustain relations with the civil society.
Mr Paon said as this was an ongoing process, it was important the stakeholders to assist it, develop avenues that can blend their jobs.
"Forums such as this are important for us to build this process. It is important that we all take advantage of this and improve from here on," said Mr Paon.
He added that unlike the health and education sectors that draw on the civil society to compliment its work, law and justice was steadfastly making headways.
Mr Paon further reminded the stakeholders to embrace the sector's Strategic Frameworks as well as the National Law and Justice Policy.
He commended the NGOs for being the voice of the people, and often working in very difficult circumstances.
"I am confident we can improve from here on, as long as we strengthen the relations we have established. The sector is committed to the NGOs and will continue to ensure it sustains this," said Mr Paon.
Ms Hakaua Harry from the Department of National Planning said the government recognized the role of the NGOs.
Ms Harry said in the Medium Term Development Strategy (MTDS) the government has created provisions for assistance.
"You all play a key role in delivering government services to our people. The government is constantly improving its assistance and in time, we hope an engagement policy can be established," said Ms Harry.
