The Department of National Planning and Monitoring

Valentine Kambori, MBE
Is the Secretary of the Department of National Planning and Monitoring.
A seasoned corporate executive, he was Director-General of National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI), Chairman of the PNG Growers Association, and Chairman of the Investment Promotion Authority Board (IPA).
He is chairman of the National Coordinating Mechanism (NCM).

The role of the Department of National Planning and Monitoring is to lead, plan and coordinate and facilitate appropriate national and international initiatives that address and promote equitable and sustainable development of Papua New Guinea in accordance with a long-term vision for the nation that has the support of citizens of Papua New Guinea, all in accordance with the five directive principles of the National Constitution. 

The department will act as the key central agency advising government on matters relating to strategic development policy, development planning and programming, aid coordination and management and the monitoring and evaluation of national development.


DIVISION ROLES 

Division of Policy and Research

Within the mandate of the DNPM as the key central agency responsible for planning matters, the role of the Development Policy and Research Division is to set out the key issues and constraints facing, as well as the policy options for promoting equitable and sustainable developments in Papua New Guinea.

Development Planning and Programming

With the mandate of the DNPM as the key central agency responsible for planning matters, the role of the Development Planning & Programming Division is to identify and resolve key issues or constraints and to maximise opportunities regarding the planning and programming of sustainable development in Papua New Guinea.

Aid Coordination and Management 

With the mandate of the DRPM as the key central agency responsible for planning matters, the role of the Aid Coordination and Management Division is to coordinate and mobilise resources from development partners and international funding institutions, so as to promote equitable and sustainable development.

Development Monitoring and Evaluation

Within the mandate of the DNPM as the key central agency responsible for planning matters, the role of the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Division is to monitor and evaluate the rate, direction, quality, equity and sustainability of national development.

Finance and Administration 

The role of the Finance and Administration Division is to provide such support services as are required so as to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the department as it carries out its role and function as a central agency. The support services are to include finance, payroll and accounts, personnel, staff development and training, information technology and data management system, archives and registry and logistics.
