A prominent women leader in the Asaro valley has called on the law and justice sector to involve more women in policing and village court responsibilities.

Betty Benson, who is the only female magistrate in the Asaro Village Court believes, the timing is right to give these responsibilities.

"I believe women are well prepared. Many victims of offences committed against them will find it easier to talk to women than men. Often, they don't speak freely and this will help them, deal with their complaints effectively," said Mrs Benson.

She added that women were often unfairly treated in courts, because of the male dominance and are often, intimidated to speak the truth.

Mrs Benson added that more women were comfortable, dealing with her, however she was only one, and often did not attend to all their queries.

"I am sure if we made three more appointees, this will not only reduce the work load, women will surely have their grievances addressed," said Mrs Benson.

She also added that women should also be recruited to assist the Asaro police mount roadblocks and police the highway.

Mrs Benson added that women were willing to assist and it was time to avail the opportunity to them.

"Give them a chance. I am sure they will deliver results that can compliment the work of the formal law and justice agencies in Asaro," said Mrs Benson.
